Compass Security Research Community, or CSRC for short, is now in publication.
The concept of security has taken on a meaning far beyond the military literature in today’s world. The understanding of security associated with states has left its place to the search for the security of individuals, societies, communities and global life. In addition, serious deviations has appeared in the traditional understanding of “individual security”. We now live in a world where not only the safety of life, but also the quality of life and the concern of status are perceived as a “security problem” within the chain of individuals, society, state, world and space.
No one intends to delay or thrust away from their privileges. Especially giving up one’s right is perceived as a “stupid” attitude, so to speak. Someone else’s happiness takes on an identity that threatens, restricts or provokes our individual happiness expectations. How that happens? People really have a hard time understanding this. I think we can have the opportunity to explain this by discussing the ethical problems of the world we live in.
On the other hand, we are faced with the strange understanding of struggling with abstract threat perceptions for the sake of constructing a concrete “security”. The postmodern times we live in have abstracted many concepts by turning them into “weird” and “fuzzy”. Accepting these “abstract” concepts as the infallible guides of our lives with their new meanings inevitably leads us to the point of alienation, marginalization and perversion, which Adorno points to with the aphorism of “wrong life cannot be lived rightly”.
In the face of concrete threats, we can increase the methods of combating partly traditional and partly modern. What about abstract threats? With this question, we have to make a note of our evaluation: It is no longer possible to navigate safely in the emotional, abstract and uncertain world of perceptions. Instead, we have to generate ideas and develop policies by taking into account the conceptual frameworks of the facts, which have taken on a little bit of flesh and bone. I think this will be a more accurate choice for our understanding of both individual and social security to gain a useful identity.
In fact, the question that should have been asked at the beginning is: Is it possible to take the right steps for the construction of individual and universal security in a world whose balance has been turned upside down? As PUGAT, our answer to this question is clear: Yes. We think that a functional method of making progress on this path is to increase the efforts to build a basis for healthy thinking
I seem to hear the questions in your mind… “Are you planning to add a new one to the think tanks that already have hundreds of examples? What difference does that make?”
Pure research requires a dedication beyond chronological historiography. On one hand the theory of the butterfly effect and on the other hand the story of the man who threw starfish into the water from the beach swirl around in our minds. We set out with an understanding outside of the conventional think tank format. PUGAT volunteers consist of professional people who adopt the principle of working with this awareness. We will try to record what we would like to say about security, from the individual to the global, by calling out from life and to develop approaches to make our lives safe in every aspect.
What will be our field of interest? We plan to produce theoretical or practical content on topics such as security policies, security-politics relations, law enforcement practices, intelligence, counterterrorism, organized crime, smuggling, border security, security issues, immigration, criminal, energy, disarmament studies, public and private security personnel policies, martyrs-veterans, cases, institutional rehabilitation, professional experiences.
Anyone who wants to publish their professional experiences, academic knowledge and new research can find a place for themselves on this platform. We are determined to continue our publishing life as an independent, free and original writing platform where authors express their individual opinions without creating an anonymous identity.
At the beginning, there will be in our website basically;
Columns in which recent events are discussed within the framework of security concepts,
Series of articles prepared by making use of theoretical and academic knowledge in the field,
A news section where news published in Turkey and the world media and which we think should not be overlooked are compiled.
In the coming weeks, we will start publishing the “file of the month” section, which we plan to prepare with the contributions of authors who are experts in their fields and have experience in the field.
We also would like to do our best so that the public officials continue to seek solutions to the problems that cause security concerns and contribute to the raising of awareness in the sensible public by following the country and world issues closely, without getting offended or angry but with determination and stubbornness.
The articles to be published here and the stance of the writers will suggest a concrete example of the brain drain from Turkey. In this context, we also would like to give the following message to the public in Turkey: We have something to say about Turkey’s problems.
When the rulers turn their desire to stay in the ruling position into ambition, a security problem that concerns the whole society arises. However, it is a pity that the crowds, who continue their power fanaticism with an ideological conditioning without borders, are not aware of this security problem. Because there is a chaos that is desired to be unconcealed and an order arising from this chaos. Those rulers who built this chaos order and turn this wheel of chaos whenever they need it, stand before us as a security problem.
The hearts are not willing to remain silent by accepting the illegal practices they are exposed to. The rights of people from all strata of life, who do not give in injustice and strive to take an upright stance, hang on our necks. Everyone who makes an effort in the struggle for rights, law and justice deserves at least a round of applause. As PUGAT, it is our duty to support the struggle of these sensitive groups with the highest level of voice, without hiding behind the walls of ideology.
We hope that PUGAT will be instrumental in creating an opportunity in this direction. The political and legal dilemma Turkey is in is obvious. As a natural consequence of this situation, people from outside Turkey will prefer to contribute to PUGAT pages at the beginning. People who have been forced to live outside of Turkey today hold their longing in their bosom. However, it should also be known that many professionals preserve their internal energy to be put back to work. I think that PUGAT is a valuable project for the creation of this synergy.
